India Society of Worcester had a sell out crowd at the Hasya Kavi Sammelan presented at the India Center on April 26th, 2008 Dr. Suresh Awasthi, Dr. Sunil Jogi, and Shri Gajender Solanki regaled the audience with an evening of hilarious comedy and  thought provoking entertainment.  Their poems touched the heart strings with nostalgia of what India and its culture and traditions stand for.  The comedy in the poems spared no one, the political figures in India, themselves as poets, current Bollywood stars, the evening’s audience. They had the poetry lovers laughing and clapping continuously for three hours.  It was indeed an evening which comes around once in a few years. Click here for more pics.

w    The advent of spring was welcomed by all by dancing to live music by our very own “Jankar”at the Spring Garba held on April 5 at the India Center. Vithal and Bharti Bhakta, Radhi Navani and Ishwar Patel kept every one moving through the night with reverberating Raas music. It was enjoyed by all young and old.  Everyone is now waiting for the Garba in the Fall at the Marlboro Middle School. Click here for more Pics

Each year, the India Society of Worcester Language and Cultural School sponsors a special puja to honor Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of Knowledge.  This year it was held on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the India Center in Shrewsbury. Although the weather presented some problems initially, the puja was well attended by many of the school students, their families and guests.  The program began with the students offering their school workbooks to goddess Sarasvati.  Click here to read more and see pictures
